Expert counselling for understanding yourself more deeply

You might feel restless, worn out, or caught in the same loop of thoughts. Maybe a decision has been sitting there for months. Maybe something at work or in a relationship keeps repeating and you cannot quite name why.

Psychological counselling gives you a place to think it through with someone trained to help you find clarity.

Psychological Counselling Zurich, in-person or online

Stress and burnout

Long pressure changes how you think, sleep and decide. We look at what keeps the pressure running, at how you cope day to day, and at what you can realistically change.

Anxiety and worry

Worry that circles, avoids and grows. Together we work out what it is protecting, and how you can act while it is still there.

The same argument, the same distance, the same role. Counselling helps you see your own part in it and try different behaviours.

Relationship patterns

Life transitions

A move, a separation, a new role, a loss. Room to work out what still fits and what a sensible next step looks like.

When work stops making sense, we look at values, motivation and inner expectations before any decision gets made. For some people that is also about finding meaning again.

Work and direction

How psychological counselling helps to navigate life's challenges and improve mental health

People arrive from very different starting points. Some know exactly what they are dealing with. Others only know that something is off. Both are a reasonable place to begin. Counselling gives you room to explore what is happening and to discover new perspectives on it, which is often where mental health starts to shift.

Boost your self-esteem and set healthy boundaries that support your growth and your mental health.

Who is psychological counselling for?

If you need help urgently

Counselling is not an emergency service. If you are in an acute crisis, or there is a risk to you or someone else, contact one of the following services directly:

  • Heart2Heart (Die Dargebotene Hand): 143, around the clock

  • Ärztefon, emergency psychiatrist: 0800 33 66 55

  • Crisis Intervention Centre Zurich: 058 384 20 00

  • Emergency department, University Hospital Zurich: 044 255 11 11

Who it suits

Counselling is for adults who want to understand themselves better and handle something personal or professional more consciously. You do not need a diagnosis. You do not need to explain it well the first time. What you get is a non-judgmental space and someone who listens carefully.

Counselling or psychotherapy?

Counselling supports you with stress, transitions, self-leadership, relationship patterns and questions about work. Psychotherapy treats diagnosed mental health conditions and usually sits within a medical or regulated setting, where basic insurance can cover the cost if a doctor refers you. Counselling is normally paid privately, without a prescription.

If your symptoms point towards therapy, or if you are dealing with trauma that needs specialist treatment, I will say so and assist you in finding the right therapist. That search for professional help is easier with someone who knows the field.

How I work

My work combines psychological counselling, coaching and scientifically grounded approaches. Among other things, I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, systemic coaching and work with inner parts.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is about relating differently to difficult thoughts and feelings, rather than fighting against them. We look at what matters to you, which inner patterns hold you back and how you can stay able to act despite uncertainty.

Cognitive behavioural therapy helps you recognise the connections between thoughts, feelings, bodily reactions and behaviour. This makes it clearer why certain reactions keep coming up and how new steps become possible in everyday life.

Through systemic coaching we also include your environment: relationships, roles, professional demands and recurring dynamics. Working with inner parts additionally helps you better understand old protective patterns, inner criticism or vulnerable sides.

This creates more self-leadership: you learn to perceive yourself more precisely, make sense of your reactions and deal more consciously with stress, decisions, relationships and professional questions.

What to know before your first conversation

How much does a session cost?

130 CHF/ h online; 150 in-person. The first 30-minute call is free. You pay privately, so no referral or diagnosis is needed.

Does health insurance cover psychological counselling in Switzerland?

Usually not. Psychological counselling is normally paid out of pocket. Psychotherapy with a recognised psychotherapist can be covered by basic insurance when a doctor refers you. Some supplementary policies contribute towards counselling, so check the terms of your own insurance.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a counsellor?

In Switzerland the titles psychologist and psychotherapist are protected by law. I hold a Master's degree in psychology and work as a psychological counsellor. That means everyday difficulties, decisions and recurring patterns. It does not mean psychotherapy, which treats diagnosed conditions and belongs with a recognised psychotherapist.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on what you bring. Some questions settle in three or four conversations. Longer-standing patterns take more time. Studies on counselling often describe ten to twelve sessions, though there is no fixed number and you are not signing up for a block.

Are sessions available in English?

Yes. Sessions are held in English or German, whichever feels easier for talking about personal things. Many of the people I work with moved to Zurich from elsewhere in the world and find English simpler for this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we meet online?

Yes. Online sessions suit most concerns and cost the same as meeting in person. Some people alternate between the two.
