UNTIL YOU MAKE THE UNCONSCIOUS CONSCIOUS, IT WILL DIRECT YOUR LIFE AND YOU WILL CALL IT FATE
Gregor Braun, Psychological Counselor
Welcome. My name is Gregor, I am a psychologist working at the intersection of self-leadership, meaning, and sustainable change.
I am a co-founder of the private practice Therapy Central in Zurich, where I support individuals to find clarity and navigate life's challenges related to career direction, relationships, emotional well-being, and questions of meaning.
Alongside my work, I collaborate with leaders, teams, and organizations, supporting psychological resilience, clarity, and sustainable performance in complex environments.
Before entering psychological counselling, I spent many years in transformation-focused corporate and academic environments, working with international consultancies such as BCG and Quantis, as well as in academic contexts in Basel and St. Gallen.
My work is grounded in evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), systemic coaching, and inner child work. All my qualifications are verified on PsychologyToday.
I only work as a private practitioner, and my services are addressed to self-payers. My service is not covered by basic insurance.

My Approach to Mental Health & Counselling
No two people are the same. No single method fits all situations. My approach draws on several evidence-based frameworks, applied thoughtfully and adapted to each person's specific goals and circumstances.
Evidence-Based Methods
I draw on the following approaches, always with the human being – not the method – at the centre:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – supports psychological flexibility and helps you align your actions with your core values
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – identifies and shifts unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours
Psychodynamic work – explores how past experiences shape current emotions and relationship patterns
Inner Child Work – addresses early emotional experiences that continue to influence adult life in ways that are often invisible
Systemic Coaching – examines the broader context of your life, your relationships, and your environment
Research consistently shows that the therapeutic method alone does not determine the outcome of therapy. The quality of the relationship between therapist and client is one of the strongest predictors of progress. A 2018 meta-analysis published in Psychotherapy found that the therapeutic alliance accounts for a significant portion of positive outcomes across all methods. That is something I take seriously.
A Non-Judgmental Space
I provide you with space where you can speak honestly without being judged. Where your emotions are taken seriously, and where you remain in control of the pace and direction of the work.
Many people describe feeling a sense of relief in the first session, simply from being heard. That is not a small thing.
Supervision and Continuing Education
I engage in regular clinical supervision and commit to ongoing education to ensure my practice reflects current evidence and professional standards. This is not a formality. It is a professional responsibility – one that I believe every committed practitioner owes to the people who trust them.
Common Challenges We Explore Together
People come with many different reasons. Some arrive with a clear picture of what is wrong. Others arrive with a feeling they cannot quite describe yet. Both are valid starting points – and both are familiar territory.
Here are the most common areas we work with:
Anxiety and inner restlessness – persistent worry, difficulty switching off, a sense of tension that simply will not ease
Depression and emotional exhaustion – low mood, loss of motivation, feelings that things have gone flat or meaningless
Burnout and work-related stress – overextension, a loss of meaning in work, difficulty setting limits before it is too late
Grief and loss – bereavement, separation, life transitions that leave a gap that is hard to explain
Relationship difficulties – recurring conflicts, communication breakdowns, questions of trust or closeness
Self-doubt and low self-esteem – a harsh inner voice, imposter feelings, difficulty recognising your own value
Life transitions and meaning – career shifts, relocations, questions about identity, direction, and purpose
Recurring patterns – ways of thinking or behaving that keep returning, despite your best efforts to overcome them
You do not need a formal diagnosis to benefit from counselling. According to the Swiss Federal Statistical Office, around 26% of the Swiss population report experiencing mental health difficulties – and many of them are not in acute crisis. They are simply people who want to find ways to feel better and live more intentionally. That is enough.
What Our Sessions Look Like
Sessions are thoughtful, paced and clear. Most adults find structure helpful. Here is a simple overview:
Initial Session – In the beginning, we talk about why you came and what matters.
Exploration – We trace patterns that keep you stuck.
Development – We build practical skills and strategies.
Reflection – We review progress and adapt.
Most appointments last 50 minutes. The frequency depends on your goals and circumstances – some people meet weekly, others every two weeks.
Next Steps After Your First Session
After the initial session, we take stock together. What emerged? What feels most pressing? From there, we develop a shared understanding of the focus and direction. Nothing is fixed. The journey adapts as you do.

Client Testimonials
Fees, Insurance, Payments
Transparency on costs matters. Seeking psychological support is a real commitment, and you deserve a clear picture before you book.
Session Fees
In-person session (50 minutes): 150 CHF
Online session (50 minutes): 130 CHF
Free introductory session (30 minutes): 0 CHF
Supplementary Insurance
Many supplementary insurance plans (Zusatzversicherung) cover psychological counselling, either fully or in part. Coverage varies significantly between providers and individual policies.
Self-Payers
The majority of my clients come as self-payers – and many actively prefer it. A private arrangement means no waiting lists, no referral process, no insurance paperwork to navigate. Sessions can be booked directly and begin within days. For adults who value discretion and quality of support, this is often the more practical and preferred path.
Will Basic Insurance Cover the Cost?
This is a common point of confusion among new clients and is worth understanding before you decide. My services as a psychological counsellor are not covered by basic insurance (Grundversicherung).
Many therapists covered by basic insurance in the city have waiting lists for new clients. As counsellor working exclusively with self-payers, I can offer my clients appointments within 2 weeks from booking.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is psychological counselling for me?
Psychological counselling is for adults who want to understand themselves better, want a meaningful life, or seek sustainable change rather than chase quick tips. It is not a crisis hotline. It is not a space for urgent safety intervention. If you are in immediate danger, please contact local emergency services.
How many sessions are needed?
It depends on your goals. Some adults work for a few weeks, others longer.
Can I do online therapy?
Yes. Online therapy is widely accepted and useful for many people.
What is the difference between a psychologist, a psychotherapist, and a counsellor?
In Switzerland, these titles carry specific meanings. A psychologist holds a master's degree in psychology. A psychotherapist has completed additional postgraduate clinical training and is licensed to treat diagnosed mental health conditions. A psychological counsellor applies psychological knowledge to support reflection, personal development, and change, without operating within a medical treatment framework.
Many Swiss psychologists hold multiple qualifications across these areas. If you are searching for the right professional, these distinctions matter. I am happy to assist you in finding the right fit for your situation.
Does psychological counselling replace psychotherapy?
No. There is a clear difference between my approach as psychological counsellor and a psychotherapist. Counselling is based on reflection, personal development, and coping with life challenges. Psychotherapy is a medical treatment for diagnosed mental health conditions. If psychotherapy is indicated, this will be addressed openly and responsibly.
What if I am in an emergency or need crisis intervention?
My practice is not set up for acute crisis intervention or psychiatric emergencies. If you or someone close to you is in immediate danger, please contact emergency services (144) or the Dargebotene Hand crisis line (143, available 24 hours). For ongoing support with depression, anxiety, grief, burnout, or stress-related difficulties, I am here to help.

No. There is a clear difference between my approach as psychological counsellor and a psychotherapist. Counselling is based on reflection, personal development, and coping with life challenges.
